Even if you could mechanically secure it, most public courts explicitly prohibit attaching equipment to their poles.

The pole belongs to the park, school, or municipality, and modifying it can violate local ordinances and create liability issues for the user. Additionally, a portable hoop attached to a pole at head height creates a serious safety hazard if it shifts or falls — far more dangerous than a free-standing portable hoop in a yard.

Keep sessions short and game-like: 10 shots, then a celebration for every made basket, then 10 more. The goal isn't to simulate a real game — it's to build muscle memory for correct shooting form at a height they can score at. Why do portable basketball hoops tip over in wind?

How tall does the pole need to be for HoopSnap to work?

The pole needs roughly 7–8 feet of exposed mounting space below the existing rim. This means the pole should extend at least 7 feet below the bottom of the rim. Most standard outdoor poles (on regulation courts, driveways, and half-courts) meet this requirement.

If you're mounting on a very short pole or a wall-mounted system with limited pole exposure below the rim, measure first. The attachment clamps around the pole at a point below the rim, and the hoop hangs at your chosen height below — so you need enough pole below the rim to accommodate the clamp plus the drop to your child's hoop height.
